Chris Joannou's involvement with Aussie band The Mess Hall was brief, but surprisingly rewarding. In 2003 he, and another name formerly synonomous with silverchair - Matt "Gizmo" Lovell -, co-produced The Mess Hall's debut EP, "Feeling Sideways". The EP was nominated at that years ARIA Awards for "Best Independent Release". Chris and Matt had also co-produced the full album, "Notes From A Ceiling", in 2005, and were also nominated at the 2005 ARIA Awards for "Producer of the Year".
